In our data 87 of 12,547 construction contacts replied with interest (0.69%), more than twice the 0.29% average.

Our campaigns never went to HVAC shops as their own group, so the row above is the nearest bucket: builders, trade contractors and property firms together. Read 0.69% as a starting guess for heating and cooling shops, and expect your first send to move it. The weak spot in this bucket is the call: 87 positive replies booked 1 meeting.

How many HVAC contractors you can reach

Census Bureau figures give 111,207 plumbing, heating and air-conditioning contractors with paid staff in 2023 (NAICS 238220). HVAC has no code of its own there; plumbers sit in the same count. Our HVAC file holds 35,374 contacts in all 50 states and DC, counted September 3, 2026. Add the plumbers list and the two files reach 59,206, about 53% of that Census count. Combined shops that do plumbing and HVAC can appear in both files, and we have not measured the overlap.

Who is on the list

The file splits by the kind of shop. Air conditioning and heating shops are tagged in several ways, so the table shows the six largest tags as they appear in the CSV.

Tag in the fileRecordsShare
HVAC contractor13,14737.2%
Heating & Air Conditioning/HVAC8,18523.1%

Air duct cleaning service7022.0%

58.9% of addresses sit on the shop's own domain, so most mail reaches a business inbox, and 41.1% are on free mail. Nearly every record (99.7%) has a phone number, 77% have a claimed Google listing, and the mean Google rating is 4.61. Duct cleaning firms (1,034 records) do a different job from install shops, so give them their own send. The largest cities are Houston, with 500 contacts, Phoenix 368, New York 283, Miami 281 and Las Vegas 271.

How to run it, step by step

  1. Split the file into cooling, heating and duct work. Air conditioning contractors alone are 5,238 records and central heating services 2,323. Done is one file per kind of shop.
  2. Pick the one job your product helps with, such as replacement installs or maintenance agreements. Done is a one-line offer the owner could say back to you.
  3. Send three emails from a separate sending domain, each under 80 words, with a question the owner can answer in one line. Done is a sequence loaded and a test sent to yourself.
  4. Phone the shop the day a positive reply lands, using the number on the record (99.7% have one). Done is a booked call or a clear no.

A worked example, with the numbers

This applies the positive reply rate above to the whole list and to one month of the $2,000 plan, with a 95% range around 87 positive replies from 12,547 contacts. It assumes the list behaves like the real estate and construction contacts in our campaigns, and three emails to each contact.
