Four ways advisors pay for leads

Per prospect. You pay for a name and contact details and do the rest. Retirement Prospects charges $32 per prospect and assigns each zip code to one advisor, first come, first served.

Per appointment. Someone else calls and books the meeting. Revenx charges $90 to $150 per pre-set appointment with public-sector employees, with 20 a month on its monthly plans and a $2,000 onboarding fee unless you sign for a quarter or a year.

A monthly listing. You pay for a profile where investors browse advisors. Indyfin is $99 or $129 a month per user and AdvisorList is $99, $199 or $499. Neither page promises a number of leads, so your cost per lead is the fee divided by whatever contacts arrive.

A monthly service or a build. A team runs outreach for a retainer: Cleverly starts at $397 a month, and Poseidon and SmartAsset AMP give a price on a call. Or a team helps you build your own ad funnel for a one-time fee: Skyline Social charges $3,000 to $9,000, plus software and ad spend.

From cost per lead to cost per client

A lead price only means something next to your close rate. Cost per client is the price of one lead divided by the share of leads that become clients. The close rates below are examples to show the arithmetic, not data: put in your own.

You buyPrice eachIf you closeCost per client
Exclusive prospect (Retirement Prospects)$321 in 10$320
Exclusive prospect (Retirement Prospects)$321 in 20$640
Pre-set appointment (Revenx, lowest)$901 in 5$450
Pre-set appointment (Revenx, highest)$1501 in 5$750
Interested reply (Sales.co, $2,000 plan)about $1321 in 10about $1,320

Then compare the cost per client with what a client is worth. A client with $1,000,000 of assets at a 1% fee pays $10,000 a year, so even the highest figure in the table is paid back in the first year. A client with $100,000 at the same fee pays $1,000 a year, and the same lead prices look very different.

What one month of Sales.co cold email produces

Across 1,928,800 emails Sales.co sent from October 6, 2025 to October 18, 2026, 2,931 drew an interested reply: 0.152%, or about one per 658 emails. At $2,000 a month for up to 10,000 emails, that is about 15 interested replies a month, roughly $132 each. These are business buyers across many industries, not investors, so the figure fits an advisor whose clients are companies or their owners. To run the numbers with your own rates, use the lead generation calculator.

How to choose a lead source in five steps

  1. Name your client. Decide whether you want individual investors (prospects, appointments, listings) or businesses, such as owners planning an exit or companies picking a 401(k) plan (outbound to companies). You are done when you can write the client in one line.
  2. Price a client. Multiply typical assets by your fee to get one year of revenue per client. You are done when you have one dollar figure.
  3. Set a ceiling. Decide the most you will pay to win one client, for example one year of fees. You are done when the ceiling is written down.
  4. Convert every price. For each source in the table, divide its price by the close rate you expect and drop anything over your ceiling. Ask each vendor whether leads are exclusive or resold. You are done when two or three sources are left.
  5. Test small, then compare. Buy the smallest commitment each vendor allows, count appointments, shows and clients for a month, and keep the source with the lowest real cost per client. You are done when you have one month of your own numbers.

FAQ

How much does a financial advisor lead cost?

On vendor pages read November 8, 2026: $32 for an exclusive retirement prospect at Retirement Prospects, $90 to $150 for a pre-set appointment at Revenx, and $99 to $499 a month for a directory listing at Indyfin or AdvisorList. SmartAsset AMP and Poseidon do not publish a price.

Are exclusive leads worth more than shared leads?

An exclusive lead is sold to one advisor, so nobody else is calling the same person. Retirement Prospects states its $32 prospects are assigned to one advisor per zip code. Most other vendors do not say, so ask in writing whether a lead is resold before you buy.

How do I work out my cost per client?

Divide the price of a lead by the share of leads you turn into clients. A $32 prospect closed at 1 in 10 costs $320 per client; a $150 appointment closed at 1 in 5 costs $750. Then compare that with one year of fees from the client.

Can Sales.co get me clients as a financial advisor?

Only if your clients are businesses, such as owners planning an exit or companies choosing a 401(k) plan. Sales.co runs done-for-you cold email to owners and executives from $2,000 a month for up to 10,000 emails. It does not sell consumer leads.
